Scottsburg High School Spanish teacher Brandon Jerrell was awarded a grant for $120 from the Gladys A. Berna Education Fund at the Scott County Community Foundation. The grant will cover Spanish proficiency test costs. The exam assesses students’ abilities in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Those who achieve “intermediate-high” in all four categories qualify for the Certificate of Multilingual Proficiency, a distinction that is on their transcripts. The Gladys A. Berna Education Fund was established to honor the legacy of “Miss Gladys,” who taught in Scott County for 38 years.
