Scott County Community Foundation board member Jamie Longacre, right, presents a check for $6,267 to Humane Society of Scott County volunteer Melanie Foster. The grant was awarded from the Dr. William and Diann Scott Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation and will be used to help with the medical and physical needs of the dogs and cats, as well as offset additional costs of spaying and neutering animals. The Humane Society was able to help 376 dogs and cats get adopted locally or sent to no-kill rescue partners to find forever homes last year. There are currently 28 cats at the adoption center and 16 dogs in foster homes that are patiently waiting for new homes.
