The Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council (?YGC?), a program of the Scott County Community Foundation, awarded $6,950 in grants to youth-related projects in the community. The YGC honored grant recipients at their annual celebration on May 15.

Austin High School was awarded $850 for their ?Recovery Zone? project. The Recovery Zone will have equipment to help athletes in muscle/joint recovery, and provide education regarding nutrition.

Austin Middle and High School was awarded $1,000 for ?Life Skills in the Community.? Teacher Lee Anne Hahn will take her students on restaurant outings to help teach life and social skills.

Englishton Park was awarded $500 to provide clothes for campers at their summer camp remediation program.

Kiwanis Club of Scott County was awarded $1,000 for a spot vision screener. This equipment will help screen students with special needs and younger children, as well as kids of all ages.

Scott County School District 2 was awarded $1,000 for their elementary football program.

Scottsburg High School was awarded $250 for Maverick Challenge. Maverick Challenge is a business planning competition in Austin and Scottsburg high schools where students can win cash prizes for their ideas.

Scottsburg Middle School was awarded $800 for ?3V-VonDissen?s Virtual Vision? project. Teacher Chris VonDissen will purchase virtual reality to allow students with special needs to engage in physical activity and experience environments around the world.

Scottsburg Middle School was awarded $800 for ?Community Based Instruction.? Teacher Kia Humphrey will take her students on outings in the community to help teach life and social skills.

Scottsburg Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $500 to host a youth summer camp. The camp teaches fire safety and fire service.

Still Water Individual and Family Therapy Services was awarded $250 for their youth incentive program.

Grants Committee Co-Chairs Emily Justice and Brinley Soloe agreed that it was a tough decision awarding grants this year. ?We had a lot of good organizations that applied. We hope that this year?s grant recipients will use the grant correctly, and continue to follow the mission of the YGC,? said Brinley and Emily.
