In an effort to assist nonprofits with capacity building, the Scott County Community Foundation will be hosting quarterly lunch and learn sessions. Board members, volunteers and staff of nonprofit organizations are highly encouraged to attend.

The third session in the series is ?The Board?s Role in Fundraising.? It will be held Wednesday, June 23 from 11-1 at the Lifelong Learning Center. Getting members of a nonprofit board of directors to actively participate in fundraising can be one of the biggest challenges faced by a nonprofit. The first step is to understand the nature and facts about charitable giving. Secondly, it is important to understand that there are dozens of ways in which board members can fundraise, depending entirely on their personal preferences. Participants in this workshop will understand these two concepts and more and they will believe that ?fundraising is NOT begging, it is a values exchange!? The session will be presented by nonprofit consultant June Miller.

The last session will be ?Outcomes Measurement? on Sept. 14.

?We are pleased to continue our nonprofit workshops for the fifth year,? said Community Foundation Executive Director Jaime Toppe. ?We?ve really seen a growth in local nonprofits as they implement ideas they?ve learned, and they enjoy the networking provided through the sessions.?

?I advise staff and volunteer board members to support your organization by attending,? said Toppe. ?Our grants committee will look favorably upon organizations that apply for funding from the Community Foundation, and have shown a desire to build their organization?s capacity through attendance at these sessions.?

The cost is $10 per person and includes lunch and materials. Registration is required by Friday, June 18. Please call the Scott County Community Foundation at 812-752-2057 or email info@www.scottcountyfoundation.org.
