2011 Lilly Scholar – Chad Jones
Chad graduated with a degree in software engineering and computer science.
“I can hardly believe that I graduated from Rose-Hulman over a year and a half ago!? Time has flown over the past year as I have embarked on my journey in my career.? I am now residing in Seattle, Washington working as a Software Development Engineer at Amazon.
It?s been a fast-paced learning experience working here as I am already the most senior developer on the Amazon Devices Sales customer experience engineering team.? I?ve gotten the opportunity to create from the ground up several platforms that help improve the online buying experience for our customers every day.? Some of the projects I?ve worked on are creating a generic invitation platform that we have launched the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot with in several countries and helping to create a device configuration page that allows you to customize your device and accessories when purchasing a Kindle or Fire tablet.
Outside of work, I have been enjoying the culture of Seattle, in particular the great variety of seafood and the music scene of the area.? Several of my friends from college and I have started a band and are starting to play shows in the area.? We also have started a small record label putting out records by smaller local bands in the area, which has been very rewarding.
I cannot be thankful enough for the Lilly Endowment Scholarship for allowing me to get a world class education that has allowed me to pursue my career dreams and personal goals.? I am overwhelmingly grateful for these opportunities and I am forever thankful to my community and the Scott County Community Foundation for everything they?ve done to help me succeed!?
