Youth Wanted for Grantmaking Council

Read the article below:

Are you interested in philanthropy and serving the community? Are there issues or problems in the community that you would like to help find solutions for? Would you like to gain experience serving on a committee and giving money to worthwhile projects in Scott County?
The Scott County Community Foundation established the Youth Grantmaking Council with a $50,000 grant from the Paul Ogle Foundation and a $4,000 “Angel Grant” from the Moore Foundation. The Council was formed as a way to get youth involved in the community.
The Scott County Community Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Youth Grantmaking Council. The Council is made up of students throughout Scott County that hold regular meetings, discuss ideas and hold events to raise money, and then give grants to the community for youth-related projects. Previous grants include $450 each to Johnson and Lexington elementary schools for mentoring programs, $500 to Austin High School for Adopt-a-Friend senior citizen program, $1,000 to the Lexington Baseball League to build concession stands and an announcement booth, and $1,000 to New Life Ministries to provide religious concerts for children, and many more.
The goals of the Council are to provide opportunities for leadership development, provide positive peer support, learn about philanthropy and serving the community, form a partnership with other youth and adults, and grow the endowment for the future.
The Council is made up of 15 students, fifth grade and higher. One student will be selected from each of the schools in the county (Scottsburg Elementary, Johnson Elementary, Lexington Elementary, Vienna-Finley Elementary, Scottsburg Middle School, Scottsburg High School, Austin Elementary, Austin Middle School and Austin High School), in addition to six at-large members from any public, private or home school.
Interested students may receive an application and brochure from your guidance counselor or by calling the Scott County Community Foundation at 752-2057.
