The Scott County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of a special project fund with the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office, which will enable people to conduct charitable giving.

The Prosecutor’s Office will be hosting its Third Annual Officer Appreciation Banquet on March 16 for all active members of the local law enforcement community. Those invited to participate include the Scottsburg and Austin police departments, the Sheriff’s department, Indiana State Police, Department of Natural Resources, the Probation Department and Community Corrections Department.

Dinner is provided to the hard-working officers. In addition, continuing legal education will be offered to fulfill their annual training requirement as well as discussing important criminal issues that face Scott County.

The Prosecutor’s Office is accepting donations to be given to the officers in attendance. Items such as gift certificates to local restaurants, hardware, sporting goods or department stores; gas cards; golf, hunting or fishing equipment; tools and other gifts will be graciously accepted. Please bring items to the Prosecutor’s Office.

By establishing the Scott County Prosecutor’s Officer Appreciation Pass-Through Fund with the Scott County Community Foundation, all donations are now considered tax-deductible charitable contributions. A pass-through fund is a “charitable checking” type of account in which the donor is able to recommend multiple distributions over a period of time, allowing a donor to perform their charitable giving immediately.

“In past years, we have been overwhelmed with donations for this cause, but we’ve not been able to offer any tax credit,” said Scott County Prosecutor Jason Mount.  “Through partnership with the Scott County Community Foundation, not only will we be able to offer these deductions, but we will also be able to accept cash donations. We are very excited about this opportunity, and expect that this year will be our most successful banquet yet.”

“This is the perfect opportunity to allow people to generously give in honor of our local law enforcement, who provide much-needed services for our county,” said L.L. Lowry, Executive Director of the Scott County Community Foundation. “We are pleased to be able to provide this service to the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office and welcome the opportunity for others who may be interested in establishing their own pass-through fund at the Foundation.”

Cash donations will also be accepted to help offset the cost of the dinner, which is provided free to attendees. Cash or check donations to support the fund can be made to the Scott County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 25; Scottsburg, IN 47170. Please specify that donations are for the Scott County Prosecutor’s Officer Appreciation Pass-Through Fund.
