Austin Alumni Association Establishes New Scholarship Fund

Future Austin High School students will have another scholarship to apply for as a result of the establishment of the AHS Alumni Scholarship Fund at the Scott County Community Foundation. The scholarship, with the total based on the amount in the fund, will be awarded to students based on their grade point average, community involvement, career aspirations and character.
“Over the years, the Austin Alumni Association has been very active,” said Ishmael White, president of the AHS Alumni Association. “In the last three years, through the hard work in the community and our graduates, we have had the good fortune of having ample funds to provide scholarships and establish a foundation.”
“Austin High School has been in existence for 98 years,” continued White. “I want to establish a program that is ongoing and gives people an opportunity to invest and see their investment grow and provide an opportunity for people to give back.”
This new fund will supplement the alumni association’s existing scholarship fund, which is given to multiple students. In the past two years, $10,000 has been awarded each year in scholarships. The alumni association’s funds have grown due to the generosity of numerous alumni, including the estate of Gladys Jones, who was an educator in Scott County and lived to be over 100 years old.
As an added bonus, every donation to the AHS Alumni Scholarship Fund will be matched by Scott County School District 1, up to $25,000, announced Berley Goodin, superintendent of SCSD1.
If you would like to donate to the newly-established AHS Alumni Scholarship Fund and make a difference in the future of the youth in Scott County, please mail your donation to the Scott County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 25; Scottsburg, IN 47170.
