The Scott County Community Foundation has established a new program for donors of all means to make a difference in our community starting with a small amount of money. The Acorn Fund program allows donors to build charitable endowments the same way individuals build retirement plans: through regular contributions over time.
An endowment fund allows donors to make a difference forever by having your gift invested, with grants to charitable organizations made through the earnings of the fund. Through the new Acorn Fund program, you can plant a seed with a gift of $1,000 and work your way toward growing it to the $5,000 minimum requirement for endowment funds in five years.
You can name your own fund: for an individual, family, a particular cause, or for the benefit of charitable organizations. You can choose to play an active role in the charitable giving or entrust those decisions to the Scott County Community Foundation Board of Directors. You can even involve your family and friends in giving to your Acorn Fund by encouraging tax-deductible contributions to be made in lieu of birthday gifts or holiday gifts!
“This is a wonderful opportunity to honor someone important in your life by naming an Acorn Fund after him or her,” said L.L. Lowry, Scott County Community Foundation Executive Director. “Donors can help support their favorite charity, or even teach philanthropy by creating a fund for a child or grandchild and involve him or her in “growing” their Acorn Fund.”
If you are interested in establishing an Acorn Fund of your own, to benefit our community for generations to come, please contact the Scott County Community Foundation. |
