Youth Grantmaking Council to Host 2009 Tennis Open

The Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council is inviting all tennis enthusiasts to participate in their 2009 Tennis Open. The fundraiser will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7-8, at Scottsburg Middle and High schools.

Events include youth singles (ages 14 and under), junior singles (ages 15-18), junior doubles (ages 18 and under), adult singles, adult doubles and mixed doubles. Matches will begin on Friday at 3 p.m. and continue Saturday at 8 a.m. The rain date will be Sunday, Aug. 9.

The headquarters will be held at the high school. There will be drinks available for purchase, as well as a raffle auction. All proceeds benefit the Scott County Youth Grantmaking Council, a group of students dedicated to bettering the lives of children in Scott County through grants for youth-related projects.

Registration is $15 per single and $20 per team. Juniors will be allowed to compete in a higher age category. The fee covers the cost of tennis balls, t-shirts and awards. There will be a $10 discount for playing in two events and a $15 discount for playing in three events. Participants are limited to one singles, one doubles and one mixed doubles event.
All entries need to be received by Friday, July 31 at 3 p.m. to receive a t-shirt. All registration is due by Wednesday, Aug. 5 at noon in order to participate.

The awards ceremony and raffle auction drawing will take place Saturday after all events are completed.

Donations are still being sought for the raffle auction, as well as sponsors for the t-shirts. A donation of $50 will entitle the sponsor to their name and logo on the t-shirt as well as publicity.
