Foundation to Host Nonprofit Town Hall Sessions

Are you interested in building your network of nonprofit leaders? Sharing your success stories and/or learning creative ideas from others? Collaborating to achieve common goals? The nonprofit organizations of Scott County are vital to our community.

The Scott County Community Foundation is hosting a series of town hall meetings for nonprofit organizations to address the issues most important to you. While the sessions will have a facilitator to lead the discussion, attendees are encouraged to share ideas on what has worked or issues they are facing.

Carolyn King of the Scott County Partnership will facilitate the first meeting, “Writing a Successful Grant,” at the Lifelong Learning Center on Friday, July 10 from noon until 1 p.m. Carolyn has successfully brought millions of dollars to Scott County over the past 20 years from both governmental sources and private funders. She wrote the very successful CAPE grant that brought $5 million through the Scott County Community Foundation. Attendees will learn techniques of putting a proposal together as well as how to assess whether a funding source is worth pursuing.

"Creative Fundraising" is the second topic in the series. Anyone who attends is invited to share how you held a successful fundraiser, and gather ideas on what works (or what didn’t!). Scott County Community Foundation Executive Director L.L. Lowry will facilitate the roundtable session. The session will be held at noon on Friday, July 17 at the Scott County Heritage Center and Museum, 1050 S. Main St., Scottsburg.

The third session in the series is "Telling Your Story." How can you present your story to donors and the community in a way that will make them want to give? And how can you use technology to your advantage? Jaime Toppe of the Scott County Community Foundation will share some ideas as well as encourage others to share their “elevator speeches.” The meeting will be held at noon on Friday, July 24 at the Scott County Heritage Station (train depot), 90 N. Main St., Scottsburg.

Sharon Love of WMPI will present "Talking to the Media" in the fourth session. She will give tips on what the media looks for in stories from organizations such as ours, as well as explain important things you should know when it comes to submitting information. Information will also be provided by the Giveaway. The session will be held at noon on Friday, July 31 at the Scott County Heritage Center and Museum.

Charlotte Boswell of the Scott County Community Foundation will help you wade through the complex financial processes that nonprofits face in the last session, "Figuring Out Financials." Nonprofits have a fiduciary and governance responsibility of staff and board members. Are there financial questions that are keeping you up at night? Plan on attending the last hourlong session on Friday, August 7 at noon at the Scott County Heritage Station (train depot).

Lunch will be provided by the Scott County Community Foundation for attendees replying by the Wednesday before the session at noon.
